Of course we have to start with a cup of coffee, or two, but we always make time for a healthy meal to start the day. It's necessary when you're working all day!

Lately, I've been loving making my own "smoothie" bowls full of fresh fruit and Greek yogurt. Although I often resort to scrambled eggs in the morning, these smoothie bowls really do make starting the day a little bit brighter (maybe it's just the bright colors that make me happy...it's the little things when you're waking up bright and early!). After the holidays, and all the rich breakfast foods you might have partaken in...maybe those extra pieces of bacon or cinnamon rolls are coming to mind, this is a great way to start of your year on a more nutritious start.
Today we have a recipe that we're both swooning over. It includes Acai berries + hemp seeds, which I've been trying to incorporate in my diet. For an extra boost, I like that the recipe includes protein powder - it saves me from feeling hungry for lunch circa 10 am!

INGREDIENTS

Base
4 packs frozen Acai berry puree
2 cups coconut water
2 bananas
1 cup frozen strawberries
2 tbsp hemp protein powder

Topping
1 cup granola
2 handfuls fresh berries
4 tbsp hemp seeds

DIRECTIONS

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse until thick and creamy. Add more milk if you prefer.

Pour the blend into two bowls, top with granola, berries and hemp seeds and serve immediately!
The fair isle sweater is one of those sweaters I love to wear during these cold months. It's one that never seems to go out of style. I can't pinpoint exactly why, but this wardrobe staple reminds me of curling up by the fire, mug of hot chocolate in hand, and watching the snow fall outside.

Although we don't exactly see a lot of snow in Alabama, we can pretend right? Here are our favorite ways to wear the iconic winter sweater. My personal favorites? The ones in neutral tones that can be worn both to the office and on the weekend.

Confessions from a semi-fake blonde...

**Note - some products are applicable for brunettes, red heads and all the colors in between!

I'm what is considered a natural blonde, but as others with similar hair face, my hair has seemed to darken with age. Oh how I long for my toddler days when my hair was almost platinum. In an effort to keep my hair its golden color, I do get partial highlights. However, living on a budget and a busy schedule do not allow for regular monthly colorings or the necessary regular cuts (and I am not the type to color my hair myself or use something out of a box - I'll leave my hair care to the trained professionals). Thus, I have several products that I use daily (or weekly) to help keep my hair healthy and as light and blonde as possible for as long as possible. Check out my top five favorite hair care products for strong, healthy hair (colored or not)!

1. Shampoo/Conditioner - Joico K-PAK Color Therapy: I use this shampoo and conditioner once a day. I am trying to spread my hair washes out to every other day to help with hair growth and strength, but find myself washing every day more so than not. This shampoo and conditioner is great for colored hair because it contains advanced Quadraßond Peptide Complex® of peptides to help keep color vibrant and hair moisturized and healthy.

2. Mousse - Big Sexy Hair Root Pump: This product comes out as a spray and turns to a mousse, helping to get the product straight to the root. I apply to damp hair and blow dry with a round brush for maximum lift. I like this product because it gives my hair the texture it needs without making it too sticky.

3. Color Extender - Blonde Idol Custom Tone Conditioner by Redken: This is a great way for blondes to extend their color in between touchups. Use it starting a week after your color treatment and adjust the dial based on the strength of the color deposit you need. This helps neutralize brassiness and condition hair after a color treatment.

4. Moroccan Oil: My Moroccan Oil actually comes straight from Morocco, but you can get your own right here in the states. I apply to the ends of my hair after towel drying. I have to be careful to only use a very small, dime sized amount to avoid an oily look. This product helps condition split ends and can also help tame fly aways.

5. Repair Treatment - SeaExtend Ultimate ColorCare Silkening Oil by Aquage: This stuff is amazing. I use it once every week or two to help restore nutrients to my hair. This helps build stronger, more moisturized hair. The product uses advanced technology to mend the hair at the cuticle for smooth, healthy hair that lasts.

With all this chilly weather on the forecast, I've been looking forward to coming home from work and curling up with a blanket on the couch. (Yes, it really doesn't take much for me to get excited these days). Even if Alabama has yet to see snow, which confession: Katie and I don't like all that much, the evenings and mornings have been freezing lately! Brrrr, y'all.

Here are some of my favorite finds for your home or apartment that will hopefully spruce up these next cold couple months. It was hard for us to put away all our holiday decor, so we're hoping to incorporate a few of these things into our space within the next few weeks!

Furry throw

I love the faux fur trend, not only on vests and jackets, but as a blanket! I would love adding one to the end of my bed.
Alright ladies... and gentleman.. all barriers (and concealers aside), I still struggle with blackheads! My nose and chin seem like breeding grounds for these facial imperfections, and my pores seem like sand buckets at times. I've scrubbed, squeezed, pinched and more to try and get these pesky black things out of my skin.

One remedy I love is a DIY peel-off mask. I love the refreshing, clean feeling I have after a nice peel away mask. I found a simple, easy mask on Living Traditionally that seems to help. This one always leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth and my pores clean! It only takes three ingredients and is super easy to mix up and apply!

Ingredients

1 egg yolk
1 tablespoon gelatin (here)
2 tablespoons organic milk

Directions

Clean your face thoroughly and then steam to open up the pores.
Beat the egg white lightly.
Mix gelatin and milk together and heat on low, constantly stirring, until the gelatin dissolves completely. Transfer to a bowl.
Let the gelatin/milk mixture cool.

Once cooled, add the egg and mix well.
Spread the mixture over your face and let it set for 20-30 minutes.
Peel off starting at the chin and moving upwards.
Rinse with warm water and splash with cold water to close the pores.

From the fashion, to the stars and all of the hot topics being talked about on the red carpet, it is sure to be an evening full of entertainment.
The past few weeks have been a blur for Katie and I, in the midst of traveling home, traveling for work, and catching up on life back in Birmingham, we have been what seems like non-stop-on-the-go. Christmas, of course, was a time we wanted to spend away from our computers and with our families and friends. Then once it got into the new year, it's been nothing but catch up, resulting in "starfishing" (Katie's term) on our beds in the evenings. Although we've taken a little time off from the blog, we are back and ready to start 2015, and hope you haven't missed us too much.
Our weekend plans? Lots of blog planning, healthy recipe browsing (and hopefully cooking!), and of course cheering on our Tar Heels tomorrow afternoon. Also, you bet we'll be watching the Golden Globes Sunday night. (But it's really to see the dresses, y'all). I know I'll be finalizing my list of 2015 goals this weekend in between those activities - there's a long list of things I want to accomplish this year running through my head and I just need to get those things down on paper.

We hope you all have a lovely, restful weekend! And keep warm!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01484649420682999901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6494354593937917676.post-8217340263898478402015-01-06T03:00:00.000-08:002015-01-06T03:00:01.103-08:00New Year Toned AbsWe all do it. A new year rolls around we all say we are going to focus on eating healthier and working out more. While we may start out strong, sticking to our work out routine gets harder as we get deeper into the year. Work gets busy, things come up and slowly we begin to skip out on gym time. Trust me... I do it too...

However, I have found a way that seems to help avoid getting into the gym rut or feeling like not even going at all. Try to switch up your daily workouts. I sometimes catch myself getting stuck just jumping on the treadmill for a quick run and rushing through a quick weights workout. Now that we are almost a week into the new year, try switching up your workout routine. Take a new class at your gym, jump in the pool for a new type of exercise, or download a workout plan online to exercise new muscles.

To get you going, I've found seven easy exercises you can try to target your abs. Make tomorrow abs day at the gym and try this new workout! See picture examples from the workout here.
Plank Row

Get into a plank position with a glider under each foot. If you don’t have gliders or want to do the workout at home, try using paper plates or towels. Hold the plank, press down on the gliders, and slide legs out behind you, maintaining the plank position. Your arms will extend as you slide your body back. Then, pull your body back into the starting position. Keep a straight plank pose the entire time. Make sure you’re pushing and pulling as far as you can, getting as much range as possible. Do 10-15 forward and backs (counting forward and back as one) or for 30 seconds.

Bear

Position yourself into an extended arm plank. Place your hands directly beneath your shoulders, feet hip-width apart. Press down on the gliders and slowly pull the knees until they are about 4 inches in front of your hips. Then, push back to starting plank position, keeping the core tight the entire time, drawing the navel in. Do for 30-45 seconds, or about 10-15 reps.

One-Legged Mountain Climber

Start in a plank position and lift your left leg. Keep the right leg engaged and stable to help maintain balance Then, slide the left knee in and back, maintaining the height of your hips. Do 10-15, then switch and do the same on the other side.

Army Crawl

Get down into a plank position, squeezing your butt, with a glider under each foot. Start with your arms on the back edge of your mat. Using your forearms, crawl forward about five steps, until your gliders hit the end of the mat, and then crawl back. Make sure to hold the plank position. Engage your muscles to keep legs straight and hips stable. Do this 3-5 times, counting forward and back as one full rep.

C-Curve

Sit on the floor on your tailbone. Keep your back straight and lower down slightly as if you are lowering down for a sit-up. With a ball squeezed tightly between your thighs. Rest on your elbows and make sure to maintain that height throughout. Arch your back into a small stretch, tuck the tailbone and drive the low back down. Pick your elbows up and hold onto the backs of your thighs. Keep shoulders down, chin open, and elbows wide. This is the c-curve position.

From here, grab a set of light weights (soup cans work!) and hold arms out by your knees. Lower arms and tap the ground, then lift back to start position. Repeat as you hold the c-curve for 60-90 seconds, concentrating on the arm movements the entire time.

Hip Tips

Lay flat on your back, legs straight up in the air at a 90-degree angle. Place a ball in-between the inner thighs. Relax your hands down by your side. As you press in on the ball, tip the hips up. Keep in mind, this is a subtle movement: Be careful not to rock your hips, just tip them up slightly, initiating all movement from your lower abdomen. Crunch in and tip the hips, release halfway, repeat. Progress it by holding weights in your hands. Do 15-20 controlled reps.

X-Factor
Start with your body sprawled out on the floor in an X, holding a weight in each hand. You can also do this exercise without weights. Lift your left hand and bring the weight towards your right shin, lifting your torso and keeping your belly pulled into your spine, until you roll all the way up to balancing on your tailbone. You can come up onto your elbow a bit to make it a little easier. Lower back down and alternate sides. Try turning your foot out, still keeping the leg straight, to get a deeper inner thigh workout at the same time. Do 24-30 reps, alternating every time (so 12-15 each side).

Six Pack Scissor

Lay flat on your back, hug your knee into your chest your left leg straight and about two inches off the ground, right leg up toward the ceiling. Lift your upper body nice and high, use hands behind knee and then bring your hands behind your head. Lift the left foot and tap the back of the right heel, crunch and tip your hips, half release (just shoulder blades don’t drop your torso), and bring the leg back to its starting position a half inch from the ground. Do 12-15 per side, completing all on one side before switching to the other.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01484649420682999901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6494354593937917676.post-6090413119015478632014-12-28T10:29:00.000-08:002014-12-28T10:29:12.435-08:00Home for the Holidays

Hi All! We took some time off from the blog to spend precious time with our families as we were home for the holidays. Julie and I both went to our hometowns of Raleigh and Reidsville respectively for some much needed R&R and holiday family time.

It was wonderful to have a few days off to spend at home surrounded by friends and family. Christmas is always one of my most favorite times of the year. It is not because of the gifts under the tree or the delicious meals, though those are nice additions to the holidays. However, Christmas has come to mean so much more now as we grow older. It is such a special time when family comes together, something that doesn't happen as often as it should.

This year, my family did something really special on Christmas Eve AND Christmas Day. We pulled out old home videos from when my sister and I were newborns up through four and five years old. It brought tears to my eyes to watch how simple things seemed back then. Now we are lucky to even have a day to sit down at a meal together.

There was footage from Christmases of years past with our entire extended family gathered around our large dining room table. We had so many people in the house we had to have a separate kids table. Sadly those days have come and passed. I can't remember the last time we had to set up an extra table for the children.

Its an unavoidable fate that time will continue to change and the memories of holidays past will remain memories. However, while the excitement of waiting to see what Santa brought isn't quite what it was 15 years ago, there is something even more special about Christmas these days. I found myself more thankful to just spend time with family, and that we were happy, healthy and able to enjoy the company of each other.

As we grow older, those special moments outweigh anything under the tree.

Hoping you all had a very Merry Christmas and wishing you a prosperous New Year. Stay tuned as Julie and I venture for Music City to ring in 2015.
Whether you're out this weekend finishing up your holiday shopping, baking cookies with your friends and family, or putting the final touches on your Christmas decor, we hope you'll remember the true meaning of this season. This quote below (from one of our favorite Christmas movies, The Grinch), always brings us back to what is important. With less than a week until Christmas day, we're reflecting on the things that truly matter most - those we love and the things we need to be thankful for. These are gifts that keep on giving all year. Wishing y'all a happy weekend!

Today, we are hoping to get y'all more in the Christmas spirit (if you aren't already) with some of our favorite Christmas songs. Here are ten tracks we've been playing on repeat since well, when we put up our tree on November 1st. While we overlap on many of these songs, we did try and pick a variety of both traditional and more recent versions - along with a few of our favorite artists. Click on the song titles to see what we chose!
This southern belle is always so humble and full of gratitude, but today is HER day.

I am so thankful to have such an amazing best friend and roommate. Julie's southern style and sweeter than sugar personality are only two of her many amazing qualities. She carries herself with poise and class, and she brings light into any room. Having a friend in Julie means always having someone to depend on, to confide in and to style your kitchen and living room! Today is her special day, and it should be nothing less than perfect!
Julie - I hope your day is full of southern charm, kittens, sweet tea, wine and fuzzy socks! Maybe I'll watch the Lord of the Rings with you to celebrate.

Leave Julie a Birthday wish here in the comments section or on our Instagram or on Facebook! We are celebrating with friends here in Birmingham this week and hopefully some over the holidays as well!
A little Monday morning motivation for y'all today. We needed an extra push this morning to get going, and this saying is such a great reminder!

We both have been busy bees this month - between traveling for work, checking off things on our to-do lists and planning for a break (can you believe our to-do lists just get longer when we're planning on taking off for a while?) Crazy. We hope that you all will take a little time out of your week to reflect on those things that have been holding you back - whether that's a hectic calendar or a feeling like you have to please everyone. With Christmas next week (eeee, can you believe it's 10 days away?!), it's the perfect time to refocus and recharge, meditating on the things that truly matter.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01484649420682999901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6494354593937917676.post-25419974628824801692014-12-13T03:00:00.000-08:002014-12-13T03:00:03.926-08:0010 Minute Tone UpHappy Saturday! This is an exciting weekend for Julie and I. Julie is enjoying a visit from her parents and showing them some of our favorite Birmingham spots. I am visiting my cousins in Lexington, Kentucky and watching our Tar Heels take on the Kentucky Wildcats in basketball!

Whatever your weekend may bring, we've got a quick 10 minute pilates work out that will put some heat on your buns! This is a great, easy way to help stay tight and toned, but not cut into your valuable weekend time too much!

Hayden Panettiere's Pilates instructor, Heather Dorak, leads you in a quick, but intense workout that will sculpt and tone your backside. Grab a light weight — three to five pounds — and get ready to feel the burn!
Maybe it comes from the years of my mom always having loaves and loaves of delicious sourdough bread coming out of the oven in waves throughout the holiday season. While my bread making skills are not quite the level hers are (nor do I have the patience to get the starter going and go through all of the preparations like she does), but I did manage to find an easy crockpot recipe for a tasty close second. Check out this easy to make cinnamon monkey bread!

What You Will Need:

2 cans Grands! Cinnamon Rolls (5 per can)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 crockpot

How To Make:

1. Open each can of cinnamon rolls and set the icing aside for later. Cut each rolls into 6 pieces.
2. Place the granulated sugar and cinnamon in a gallon size ziploc bag. Add the cut up cinnamon rolls (the pieces will fall apart a little) to the bag. Seal and shake to coat the pieces with cinnamon sugar.
3. Stir the brown sugar and melted butter together in a separate bowl.
4. Spray a 5-7 Qt slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Place half the dough pieces in the bottom of the slow cooker. Pour half the melted butter mixture over the top, then add the rest of the cinnamon roll pieces and the rest of the melted butter.
5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on high power for about 2 hours. (Check regularly) The edges will start to brown, but the top will still be a little gooey looking. Turn off the slow cooker and let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
Optional: Drizzle the icing that came with the rolls over the top of the monkey bread in the crockpot, or pour it over like syrup after serving.
Note: The monkey bread will stick as it cools. Serve from the warm slow cooker and make sure that you take it all out before it cools all the way or it’ll require soaking.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01484649420682999901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6494354593937917676.post-18394458775933262732014-12-11T03:00:00.000-08:002014-12-11T03:00:03.803-08:00Christmas Wrapping, Ten WaysHappy almost-weekend friends!
It's only Thursday morning, and Katie and I both already feel like it should be Friday afternoon. Does anyone else feel that way? Maybe it's the holiday buzz in the air and the feeling that we're about to go home for a break (a short one, but a break nonetheless!). We are both excited to head back to North Carolina and see our home Christmas trees. Then, it will really feel like Christmastime. For the presents under the tree, I've come up with ten ways that may inspire you while you wrap this weekend. We hope these ideas - from traditional pairings to more unique - will come in handy as you turn on a Christmas movie, pull out all your scissors and tape and turn your living room into Santa's workshop.
For my gifts, I chose a mix of metallic gold with glittery ribbon and burlap. Lately, I've been a big fan of mixing high and low styles together, to keep it elegant yet not too over the top. I can't wait to get home to put them under the tree!

It's festive, yet extremely easy to make - perfect for those last minute occasions! We served up baked brie at a party we hosted earlier this year, and since it was such a hit, we thought we may try our hand at this recipe coming up in the next couple weeks. Think, pre-Christmas Eve service? Yum!
Baked Brie with Cranberry Sauce and Walnuts

Ingredients:

3/4 cup cranberry sauce
1 16-ounce brie round
Zest of one orange
2/3 cup walnut pieces
Crackers for serving

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Remove the top of the rind from the cheese using a serrated knife, and discard the rind. Place the cheese, cut side up on an oven safe plate or bowl. Just make sure to use a larger plate or a bowl so your cheese doesn't start oozing off the plate! Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
3. Remove from the oven and top with the cranberry sauce. Bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is soft and warm. Sprinkle the top with orange zest and walnuts.
4. Serve immediately with crackers.

For a simple cranberry sauce, combine 4 ounces cranberries, 1/3 cup orange juice and 1/4 cup sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce to medium and simmer until thickened and cranberries have popped. For extra flavor, add 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg and cinnamon.
While it is easy to get in a funk over the weekend ending and the start of another work week, it is always good to think of Mondays with a fresh persepctive. It is the start of a new week, a clean slate for the next seven days. While we may be a bit tired and not overjoyed to jump out of bed this morning, we should be thankful to be healthy and able to enjoy the day. For today's Monday Musing, we wanted to start off the week on a lighthearted note.

Isn't this adorable? When the cold weather rolls in sometimes all we feel like doing is sitting on the couch under the blanket. Many see the approaching New Year as a time to focus more on a healthy lifestyle. While living and eating healthy is important, sometimes we all just need to sit back and relax. Don't let the busy end-of-year stress get ya down. And when it does, a nice workout is a great way to relive some stress!
WARNING: Tear-jerker! This story of Butch, the Boston Terrier may bring tears to your eyes, but it is worth the read. This sweet pup never really had a chance in life until a few kind humans rescued him. His time on Earth was short-lived, but his last days were not without a few puppy favorites. His inspiring and heart warming story is a great reminder to us all to put things in perspective. We are very blessed to have the things that we have, and there are many that are not as lucky. Don't take for granted the best, most simple parts of life.

Plain and simple, men are hard to shop for. We've been there, done that. For some reason, we can never think of ideas for the men in our lives. So...in an effort to help ourselves find things for the guys on our lists that aren't the same old same old, we've pulled a few options in our research. (No ties here, ladies). We hope some of these finds will come in handy if you're out Christmas shopping this weekend, or cyber shopping, and can't quite nail down what to get for the boys. And if you're on a strict budget, like us, hopefully our guide will help!

We've been a little slack here lately in terms of cooking. Our lunches and dinners have become a somewhat simplified mix of whatever we can find in the fridge, freezer or pantry. However, I will say we still try to eat healthy. Whether it be a simple salad or greek yogurt parfait, we try to maintain a balanced and filling diet. We also stay healthy by not buying cookies, chips and other snacks at the grocery store. My best method for avoiding unhealthy foods is just to not let myself get near them!

However, I LOVE TO SNACK. Yes, another confession. I love to munch on snacks in between meals. So, in an effort to keep these snacks low-carb and healthy, I have tried to limit my snack options to healthy choices of fruits and nuts. Today I'm sharing a delicious, healthy and filling snack that will also curb your sweet tooth. Enjoy!

1. Continue decorating.

We're still on the hunt for Christmas stockings to hang over our fireplace. Send any ideas our way!

2. Finish up holiday shopping and wrap gifts.

There's still quite a few people we have left to shop for so we're hoping to cross a few names left on our list within the next week or two.

3. Mail out Christmas cards.

5. Baking + exploring the town.

How divine does that white cake look? We can't wait to start making some fun treats for the holiday season (and perhaps munching on them while we explore the Christmas lights of Mountain Brook homes!).

6. Attend Alabama Theater's Holiday Movie Series.

Alabama Theater is presenting 13 days of Christmas movies. I am dying to attend White Christmas, while Katie can't wait to go see It's A Wonderful Life. The best part? The Christmas carols sung before each movie!

Happy Monday! We hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing Thanksgiving. Hopefully you all were able to enjoy good family, friends, food and possibly some football too! Now that the day of Thanks has passed (followed by Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and now Cyber Monday), we are in full-force Christmas mode.

While at home, we managed to pick up a few home decor items to help bring the spirit of Christmas to our apartment. I'm sure we will have more to add to our display (including our stockings!), but check out how we've transformed our apartment for the season. Also take a look at some of our favorite holiday home decor inspiration.
Today, Katie and I are heading back to Birmingham after a few days off at home. We hope you all had just as restful and delicious Thanksgiving as we did! Our stomachs and hearts sure are full as we make the trip to Alabama.

I'm excited to share one of my favorite beauty looks during the holiday season - bright red lips! Red lipstick is a go-to if you want to look elegant and classic. Trick is, you need to do it right.

Here are some tips (click here to see the original article!) we found on Real Simple that I can't help but post here too. Real Simple, yes, and yes.
Consider the lighting. "If you're going to be outdoors, pick a softer or sheerer shade," says Rachel Lockhart, owner of Rachel's Makeup Studio, in Boston. "For evening, go bolder, so your features stand out."

Avoid deep reds if you have thin lips. They tend to make lips look smaller.

Experiment with intense shades if you have strong coloring. "Natural contrast gives you more options," says Jill Morton, head of ColorCom, a consulation agency in Honolulu, says of those with exaggerated natural coloring (for example, paper-white skin, black hair and blue eyes.

Don't play up your eyes. "Pair red lipstick with the lightest possible eye makeup," says lipstick designer Poppy King. A little mascara and beige shadow will do.

Don't toss a red lipstick in a shade that doesn't work. "Top it with a gold gloss to warm and soften it, or add a pink gloss to take it to the bluer side," says makeup artist Maria Verel.

Coordinate your look. Dot a little smudge of the lipstick on the apples of your cheeks, then blend it with your fingers.

Be precise. That means whether you're using a brush or applying lipstick straight from the tube. "Red lipstick should never be applied in the back of a taxi," says Verel.

Don't use red lip liner. If it doesn't match your lipstick perfectly (and odds are it won't), you'll end up with a two-tone effect. If you like using liner, find a shade that's close to your natural lip color and use it to outline your lips.

Prevent "bleeding." Apply a little concealer around the border of your mouth.

Avoid getting lipstick on your teeth. After applying, put your finger in your mouth, purse your lips around it, then slowly pull it out to remove excess color.
